SURFACE LIBRARY GALLERY + ATELIER was founded in 2006, by painter James Kennedy and ceramic artist Bob Bachler, in the "Springs Historic Art District" of East Hampton. In 2011 the gallery moved to 551 West 21 Street, NYC, in the Chelsea Art District.

It is committed to curating and exhibiting thematic shows featuring emerging national and international artists.
